AN ABUNDANT CROFT

Our Story

We were very fortunate to became tenants of croft36 Northton in 1998, in the subsequent years we drained the croft, built a house and had three more children besides working in various jobs such as fishing and hospitality.

In 2010 we started making and delivering seafood meals to visitors and residents alike. Later that year we started selling dressed Crab from a kiosk, Crab sales were bolstered by home-made bread and cakes. The following year we built the shed/shack which is still in operation today complete with the original honesty box system.

More recently, we have been able to focus on doing the things we enjoy most such as baking, making soups and meals. We use Leverburgh Langoustines, Crab and Fish and  grow vegetables on the Machair, or strawberries, salad crops and tomatoes in our polytunnel.

Baking includes various pasties, butteries, bread, scones and tarts. A new venture this year is our masonry oven which we are able to fuel with the coppiced willow we planted 20 years ago, we are hoping to make assorted craft breads and pizza!

 Julies Butteries

Dough, folded and layered with plenty of salted butter, has a nice flakey crust and soft crumb.

I can recommend breaking off chunks and dipping into a Crab or Langoustine soup, alternatively spread with homemade marmalade.
